...the Real is a construct
it's the raw nerve's private zone
it's a personal sunset
you drive off into
alone

-- from Passing Strange, Stew/Rodewald/Dorsen

Use blood for ink, and write the world anew:
The untouched line, the story without end.
The sacrifice on which all tales depend.
Upon your skin, write out the book of you.
Each moment, hour and day scribes who we are,
The unmarked page unknowing what's to be,
The future writ in words we cannot see,
The past blocked out, unchanging as a scar.
Bind up your life in memory and dreams,
And for the spine, choose all that you desire,
The touch of ice, the bitter kiss of fire...
The tale is yours. Yours also are the seams.

Use blood for ink, and write the world anew:
Upon your skin, write out the book of you.

-- "The Book of You," Seanan McGuire, 2005

How I read the journals I "friend," and how I rather hope you will read mine:
"It's your journal, after all. What you share is your prerogative; what we see is our privilege."
-- volund, July 2003

I maintain that "friends list" is a misnomer; think of it more as a reading list, gathered together for convenience's sake. What it says about the people here is that I read their journals in one group. There are other journals and weblogs that I read regularly that are not grouped here. (You might also want to read these -- http://roadnotes.livejournal.com/343349.html, http://roadnotes.livejournal.com/387751.html, http://roadnotes.livejournal.com/469203.html, and http://roadnotes.livejournal.com/528262.html -- for some of my thoughts and feelings about the "friending" process.)

Given those parameters... I am a woman of a certain age, born and raised in New York City, who has moved (as of April 2011) to the Pacific Northwest. I read, I sing, I contemplate the world around me... and I try to make myself a receptacle for the transcendent, for joy, and for good, because I am on the side of Good by accident and happenchance.

This is the online equivalent of a personalzine, and should be in no way mistaken for a complete person. What I write here is only a fragment of what goes through my head, and is translated twice: first into words, then out of my personal language and into more standard English. Contents may settle. Dilute! Dilute!
